HON. DCE’S WORKING VISITS TO THE BASIC EDUCATION CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION’S CENTRES (B.E.C.E) HELD ON MONDAY 15TH TO WEDNESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER 2021

INTRODUCTION:

Aware of West Africa Examination Council’s schedule for this year’s nationwide Basic Education Certificate Examination exercise which started from Monday 15th November 2021 to Friday 19th November 2021, the Hon. District Chief Executive together with other Officials of the Bosome Freho District Assembly paid a two-day working visits to the various Examination centres within the district. These visits were for the Hon. District Chief Executive and the Assembly to monitor activities at the various centres before, during and after the entire Examination exercise.

There are five (5) Examination Centres in the district which include Asiwa, Tebeso, Nsauem II centres, Dunkura and Nsuta.

PROCESSES AND OUTCOMES:

Organizational Purpose

The Hon. DCE as part of his work plans tasked the District Co-ordinating Director to mobilize all participating Departmental Heads and the Hon. Presiding Member for the programme via phone calls and follow ups. The exercise started at the beginning of the week, Monday 15th November 2021 and ended on the Wednesday 17th November 2021 from 6:00 am. Three (3) Examination centres, namely, Asiwa, Nsuaem II and Tebeso were visited on the first day whilst the remaining two (2) centres, Dunkura and Nsuta were visited on the last day, Wednesday 17th November 2021.

The various visits saw the Hon. DCE being introduced to the participating examiners and pupils, and a brief motivational speech was delivered by the Hon. DCE to the pupils in order to encourage them to put in their best efforts. In addition, the status of various centres with respect to furniture, windows and other relevant logistics were assessed by the team.

Participation

In all, fourteen (14) Officers including the Hon. DCE and Hon. Presiding Member took part in the exercise. The monitoring Officers are shown as per table 1 below;

With respect to the total number of participating pupils, One Thousand Two Hundred and Twelve (1,212) pupils registered for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district. Out of the number of registrants, a total number of One Thousand One Hundred and Eighty-Three (1,183) pupils sat for the Examination. However, Thirty-four (34) pupils were absent throughout during the examinations. The Centre with the highest number of participating pupils was Dunkura with two hundred and eighty (280) pupils, whilst Asiwa Centre had the lowest number with two hundred and eighty (208) candidates. Below is table 2, showing the number of participating pupils and Absentees by various Centres in the district.

CONCLUSION:

The monitoring exercise to all the five (5) Centres were successfully carried out as it served as a platform for the Hon. DCE to create a more transformed relationship with both the examiners and the pupils. The programme also created the awareness of the Hon. DCE with regard to basic needs and specific logistics required by some of the Centres.
