On October 31, 2023, at the District Assembly Hall, the Bosome Freho District Education Oversight Committee convened as usual. Other committee members, including staff from the Ghana Education Service, District Assembly, Parent-Teacher Associations, School Management Committees, and community leaders, attended the meeting, which was presided over by the district director of education.
During the meeting, decisions were taken regarding the future of education in the district and several related problems were discussed. The following are some of the main points of the meeting:
Update on Conduct of the BECE Examination
The District Director of Education reported on successful and generally peaceful manner at which the exercise was conducted even though there were pocket of exams malpractices recorded at some centers such as Ampento. He remarked however that the marking of the transcript was on-going and of the hope that by December 4th 2023, the new SHS form one student would be reported at the various second cycle institutions nation-wide, as per GES academic calendar.
As part of measures to fight against exams malpractices, the Director informed the Committee that GES has directed an immediate posting of teachers and Head teachers of the affected schools nation-wide, in respect of the exams infractions recorded during the conduct of the 2023 BECE, to different districts and regions to deter others from doing same in the subsequent exercise.
The Committee commended the District Director of Education and the Directorate as a whole, for effort made to reduce the examination infractions to the barest minimum as compared to the previous exercises in the district. To effectively resolve various indiscipline activities and other related issues being reported to the Directorate, the District Director of Education proposed for the formation of disciplinary committee mandated for the purpose. The Committee discussed further on constitution demands in this regard, and approved for the request made.
Formation of Disciplinary Sub-Committee
Following the approval made on the formation of the above sub-committee to take actions on indiscipline behaviors reported to the office of the District Director of Education, the committee after careful analysis made from the constitution, accordingly, formed a five-member committee to take up the responsibilities as follows:

- Acheampong Daniel (DEOC, Rep)- Member
- Adwoa Adwubi (Parent, Rep) – Member
- Ibrahim Agyekum- Secretary
The District Director informed the House that the Disciplinary Committee would be duly commissioned and oriented accordingly on their mandate to enable them commence their duties as required and on time.
Update on Desk Production
The Head of the implementation team referred the previous recommendations on quantity of dual (400) and mono (500) desks agreed to be produced by the contractor and subsequently, reported that the furniture has been duly manufacture in conformity to the agreed specification and standard with distribution to various community schools completed.
He however, indicated that the Directorate is yet to work on the final payment of the remaining 40% cost of production owe to the contractor. Mr. Asabere confirmed also that the defective desks previously manufactured were duly repaired at the various schools as promised by the contractor, per monitoring activities carried out.
As to whether there was provision of retention to cater for defective furniture, the committee was informed that there wasn’t any form of retention to that effect but an agreement was made per the MoU, directing the contractor to take care of such situation as and when occurred.
