INTRODUCTION
The Bosome Freho District Assembly joined the rest of the country to celebrate the 3rd Green Ghana Day. The theme for this year’s event was “Our Forests, Our Health”. The event is aimed at planting ten million (10,000,000) tree seedlings nationwide as part of the effort to afforestation and mitigate climate change.
PROGRAM PARTICIPATION
The program was graced by the Member of Parliament (Hon. Akwasi Darko Boateng) for Bosome Freho Constituency, the District Co-ordinating Director, Chief and Traditional leaders (Nananom) of Asiwa community, District Education Director, Headmaster of Bosome Secondary Technical School, District Police Commander, Presiding Minister of the Asiwa Presbyterian Church, District Forestry Officers and staff of the District Assembly.
The officers from the Forestry Commission supervised dignitaries for the event to plant Twenty (20) tree seedlings on the premises of the Assembly to mark the occasion and subsequently briefed participants on the species of trees and their significance.
REMARKS
The District Co-ordinating Director remarked that trees are important to human survival so everyone should make it a habit to cultivate enough trees to reduce the negative impact of climatic change. He urged participants to nurture and maintain the trees being planted to achieve their intended objectives.
Hon. Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho Constituency stated that between 70% to 80% of tree seedlings planted since the inception of the Green Ghana nationwide had survived per the data from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. He emphasized that the target was to ensure ninety percent (90%) survival of the tree seedlings planted in 2023 and therefore urge everybody to get involved in ensuring that the target is met. He advised the citizens to desist from destroying the trees, forests, and water bodies.
Nananom thanked the Assembly and all stakeholders for supporting the program and reiterated the need for all participants to ensure the survival of the tree seedlings planted.
