PURC ENGAGEMENT WITH RESIDENTS OF ASIWA

On Wednesday, 10th September 2025, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) held a community engagement forum with residents of Asiwa in the Bosome Freho District. The forum was organized to educate the community on the Commission’s functions, responsibilities, and operations within the Ashanti Region.

Attendance

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including executives of PURC Ashanti, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Charles Appiah-Kubi, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Michael Agyei (Esq), Nananom, and other heads of department from the Bosome Freho District Assembly. The event was well attended by members of the community.

Proceedings

The engagement commenced with an opening address by the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Michael Agyei, who outlined the purpose of the meeting and encouraged participants to take full advantage of the platform to present their concerns, particularly regarding electricity and water service bills.

In his remarks, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Charles Appiah-Kubi, expressed his appreciation to the people of Asiwa for attending the gathering in large numbers. He reiterated discussions from his previous meeting with the community on electricity challenges and assured residents that this engagement marked the first step towards addressing their concerns. He further encouraged them to have confidence in the government’s commitment to improving electricity services in the district.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of PURC then briefed the gathering on the Commission’s duties and mandate. He emphasized the Commission’s role in regulating utility services and protecting consumer interests. According to him, “PURC exists to ensure fairness between service providers and the public, and we are here to listen to you as much as to educate.”

Conclusion

The forum was acknowledged as a significant platform for bridging the gap between service providers and the community. It enabled residents of Asiwa to voice their concerns directly to PURC officials while also gaining clarity on their rights and responsibilities as utility consumers. Both PURC and the Bosome Freho District Assembly reaffirmed their commitment to work closely with the community to enhance the delivery of reliable electricity and water services.
