INAUGURATION OF THE 5TH ASSEMBLY OF BOSOME FREHO DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

In compliance with the directives from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development regarding the inauguration of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies nation-wide, Bosome Freho District Assembly was officially inaugurated at the forecourt of the Assembly’s Administration Block on Monday, 12th February 2024.

All the thirty-two (32) Members of the Assembly which is made up of twenty-one (21) Elected Members, nine (9) Government Appointees, the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho constituency were present. The programme was well attended by Chiefs and Elders, Security Agencies, the Media, Opinion Leaders, Heads of Department, Institutions, the Clergy and a cross section of the general public. The occasion was chaired by Nana kodwo Opoku the regent of Anyinase and a representative of Kokofu manhene.

The District Chief Executive, in his welcome address, thanked the citizens for effectively embracing the decentralization processes that aims at deepening democracy and improve socio-economic development in the district. He however, appealed to Honorable Assembly Members to collaborate effectively with the Assembly system by bringing on board, an innovative idea, realistic and creative strategies that would positively improve the Assembly’s revenue mobilization especially, the internally generated fund.

All the thirty (30) Assembly Members were duly sworn-in by the Chief Justice representative, H/H Ebenezer Kwaku Ansah from Circuit Court, Adum-Kumasi.

The inaugural address was delivered by Pro. Nicholas Awotwe from the Institute of Local Government Studies, Accra on behalf of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana.

PART TWO

 The second part of the programme which was specifically on the conduct of election of Presiding Member for the Assembly as per the Model Standing Order, part two of section 9, was subsequently held at the Assembly Hall.

The election was supervised by the District Electoral Officer, Mrs. Francisca Dei-Yeboah and her officials. She briefly educated the House on the guidelines regarding the conduct of election of presiding member.

Two Assembly Members in the persons of Hon. Boachie De-Graft and Hon. Samuel Acheampong of Dunkura and Adeito respectively, contested for the position of the Presiding Member.

Before the commencement of the ballot, the District Co-ordinating Director pleaded with Hon. Assembly Members to consider the state of the Assembly and successfully elect a presiding member to help accelerate the development of the district.

Two ballots were held and the result from the total valid vote cast were as follows;

The Electoral Officer after declaring the result, indicated that per the constitutional requirement, since none of the candidates obtained two-thirds (2/3) of the total valid vote cast, the Assembly is mandated by law to call for re-election within ten (10) days to continue the processes until a presiding member is successfully elected.

At the end of the proceedings, the District Co-ordinating Director adjourned the meeting by assuring the House that a new date for the re-election would be communicated to Hon. Assembly Members within the stipulated period
