REPORT OF THE BOSOME FREHO DISTRICT EDUCATION OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEETING, HELD ON TUESDAY 30TH NOVEMBER 2022 AT THE ASSEMBLY HALL-ASIWA

Introduction

The Bosome Freho District Education Oversight Committee held its regular meeting on Tuesday, 30th November 2022, at the District Assembly Hall. The meeting was chaired by the District Director of Education, Mr. Seth Boateng, and attended by other committee members, including representatives from the Ghana Education Service, District Assembly, Parent-Teacher Associations, School Management Committees, and community leaders.

The meeting discussed various issues affecting education in the district and made decisions on the way forward. Some of the key highlights of the meeting are as follows:

Update on the Procurement of Furniture

Per the previous report, Members were informed about the completion and distribution stage of the furniture manufacturing which was awarded to Ampomah Wood Works. Reporting on the current state, the Head of the Implementation Team, informed Members of the distribution of Five Hundred and Seventy-Nine (579) Dual Desks to twenty (20) basic schools within the district with the remaining ready to be distributed to Abosamso circuit. Members commended the effort and recommended for proper monitoring activities to be carried out on the distribution processes.   

Update on the procurement of Laptops

Members were informed that the procurement processes for the purchase of the remaining 17 laptop as was approved by DEOC at the last meeting was at the completion stage and would soon be distributed to the non GALOP schools to enhance monitory and supervision. 

Update on the Enrolment of non-GALOP Schools onto the mobile School Report Card (mSRC) Dashboard

With regards to the enrolment of the non-GALOP schools onto the dashboard, all the forty-eight non-GALOP schools have successfully been enrolled and submitting data regularly. Meanwhile, 17 of these schools are yet to receive their laptops for this purpose.

Update on the Continuation of the Quarter Two Activities

As the Committee (DEOC) at the previous meeting was recommended to officially write a  request letter for approval from GES/ T-TEL  to enable the district continue the quarter two   activities, the Head of the implementation Team briefed the House on the successful approval of the request made which has paved way for the effective continuation of the  activities as enshrined in the LTA for  communities of excellence. Members commended GES and T-TEL for the continued support and urged the implementation committee to carry out the activities as required.

Update on the Conduct of the BECE Exams-2022

The District Director of Education informed the Committee on the successful conduct of the 2022 BECE examination with effective monitoring and supervisory role carried out by the directorates to ensure a fruitful exercise.

Conclusion

The Bosome Freho District Education Oversight Committee meeting was a productive one, with fruitful discussions on various issues affecting education in the district. The committee noted the need for collaboration among stakeholders to address the challenges and ensure the effective implementation of education policies and programs. The committee resolved to continue its efforts to enhance the quality of education in the district and provide a conducive learning environment for students.
