The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho District, Hon. Charles Appiah Kubi, stated that the assembly has successfully used the PWDs fund to remove approximately 90% of persons with disabilities from the streets in the district. This initiative is making street begging a thing of the past for PWDs in the area. The Social Welfare Department has distributed start-up kits to 29 beneficiaries as part of this effort, aiming to equip PWDs with resources for economic independence. The DCE emphasized that these kits, which include items like refrigerators, deep freezers, spraying machines, wheelchairs, and fufu-making machines, should be used to establish businesses and improve livelihoods, rather than being sold. The increased PWD Fund allocation has allowed the Social Welfare Department to support more PWDs, with plans to assist around 30 beneficiaries on three occasions this year and more before the year ends. Additionally, the enhanced funding has enabled support for PWDs pursuing education. The Federation of Persons with Disabilities in the district commended the assembly for prioritizing their welfare and expressed hope for continued interventions to completely eradicate street begging among PWDs.
