The Bosome Freho District Assembly has commissioned 22 mechanized boreholes across the district to improve access to potable water under the leadership of the District Chief Executive, Hon. Charles Appiah Kubi. The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday at Asiwa, formed part of the Assembly’s efforts to address the long-standing water challenges facing rural communities in the district. Speaking at the event, Hon. Appiah Kubi said the project was in response to appeals from communities that have over the years struggled with access to safe drinking water, especially during the dry season. “Water is life. As an Assembly, we cannot achieve our development goals if our people still walk miles for water. These 22 boreholes are a demonstration of our commitment to bring relief to our people,” he said. He noted that the boreholes were strategically sited based on needs assessment conducted by the Assembly with support from the District Works Department and traditional authorities. According to him, the intervention will not only improve health and sanitation but also enhance school attendance and economic activities, particularly for women and children who bear the brunt of water scarcity. Hon. Appiah Kubi urged beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facilities and protect them against abuse and theft, calling on Water and Sanitation Management Teams (WSMTs) to ensure proper maintenance. Traditional leaders and residents who attended the ceremony expressed gratitude to the DCE and the government for the intervention, describing it as timely. Nana Appiah Nuamah chief of Tebeso II, said the boreholes would put an end to years of dependence on unsafe water sources. The 22 boreholes add to four key projects – two CHPS compounds and two school blocks – that were started in December last year under Hon. Appiah Kubi’s administration. Communities that benefited include: Amormoso, Korchikrom, Tebeso I, Tebeso II, Ahwiaso,Besease, Semdadieso,Fereboye, Anyaso and Bobiam respectively.
