District Parliamentary Dialogue

Introduction:
On the 21st of November 2024, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Bosome Freho District, successfully organized its Parliamentary Dialogue at the Asiwa Lorry Park from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This event was part of NCCE’s ongoing efforts to foster democratic engagement, allowing Parliamentary candidates to present their party views to the constituents. Additionally, the dialogue aimed to encourage a commitment from the candidates to run non-violent, issue-based campaigns.

Objectives of the Event:
The primary objectives of the event were:

  • To provide a platform for Parliamentary candidates to share their political party’s views with the constituents.
  • To promote peaceful and issue-driven campaigns.
  • To engage constituents on matters of concern, ensuring that the needs and interests of the people drive the political process.

Attendance:
The event saw the participation of a wide range of stakeholders including:

  • Representatives from the major political parties
  • Stakeholders from various sectors
  • Faith-based organizations (FBOs)
  • Assembly Members
  • Traditional rulers
  • Students from Bosome Senior Technical School
  • Heads of Departments from various sectors

  • Hon. Kofi Adu Amoateng, District Chief Executive
  • Dr. Imurana, NCCE Director of Programmes
  • Madam Margaret Konama, Ashanti Regional Director, NCCE
  • Mr. Larbi, Deputy Regional Director, NCCE
  • Isaac Ayesu Badu, NCCE District Director

Welcome Address:
Isaac Ayesu Badu, the NCCE District Director, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the dialogue. He noted that the questions posed during the dialogue were based on research focusing on critical issues of concern to the Ghanaian voter. These topics included:

  • Education
  • Economy
  • Roads and Infrastructure
  • Agriculture
  • Job Creation

Dialogue Session:
During the dialogue, only one Parliamentary candidate, Hon. Asafo Adjei Ayeh of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), represented his party. He outlined his party’s key focus areas, which included:

  • Job creation, particularly through vocational skills development
  • Scholarships for students
  • Infrastructure development, with an emphasis on roads

The dialogue provided a space for the candidate to engage with the electorate and discuss key policy proposals, while also emphasizing the importance of peace and non-violence in the upcoming elections.

Conclusion:
The Parliamentary Dialogue organized by the NCCE on 21st November 2024 was a success. It concluded peacefully, with participants engaging in thoughtful discussions. The event aimed to promote an issue-based campaign and ensure that candidates focused on the concerns that matter most to the people. The NCCE’s efforts in creating a conducive environment for peaceful political discourse were evident, and the event ended successfully.
