SOAP-MAKING TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Introduction

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the Bosome Freho District Assembly organized a two-days training workshop on soap-making for persons living with disabilities (PWDs). The event took place on Tuesday, 15th April 2025, at the Asiwa Methodist Church. The initiative aimed at empowering participants with practical skills in the production of homemade soaps to promote self-employment and financial independence.

The primary objective of the workshop was to train persons with disabilities in the district on how to make various types of homemade soap products, including liquid soap and shower gel. The training is part of the Assembly’s broader agenda to support and include PWDs in community development and livelihood programs.

In his opening address, Mr. Isaac Amoako thanked the Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr. Frank Konadu Asare, for his hard work and thoughtful initiative in organizing the workshop. He encouraged the participants to fully engage with the training and make the most of the opportunity to acquire valuable skills.

A total of twenty (20) persons with disabilities from various communities within the Bosome Freho District participated in the workshop.

The training session was facilitated by Mr. Lawrence Baah Acheamfour and Mrs. Abu Hawa from Lablawsco  Ventures, an expert in local soap production. He took participants through the practical steps involved in making different kinds of soaps. The types of soap covered during the session included:

  • Liquid Soap
  • Shower Gel
  • Other forms of homemade cleaning products

The facilitator emphasized the importance of quality, hygiene, and entrepreneurship in the soap-making process.

Conclusion

The training workshop was a success, with participants expressing appreciation for the opportunity to learn a valuable trade. The Bosome Freho District Assembly hopes to continue such initiatives to empower more individuals and promote inclusive development.
